Multistack Philosophy

On plant signal or pressure increase signal in flare feed line ignition sequence initiates.

Ignition Sequence

Pilot solenoid valve energizes allowing gas to pilot, sparker sparks lighting pilot – pilot recognition signals to PLC control, pilot lit. Typical for all stacks.

Once pilot established air operated slam shut valve opens via the operating solenoid valve allowing main gas to flare stack. Gas passes pilot lighting main gas.

Temperature probe in stack picks up temperature indicating main flame lit. Pilot stays on with constant monitoring.

Variable tip motor controls flare tips to keep a set velocity and back pressure on flare tip.

This will open the orifice of the tip as the pressure increases allowing more gas to the flare.

Upon main flame or pilot failure the associated slam shut valve closes. Ignition for the stack will operate and once pilot satisfactory valve opens allowing gas back to flare.

If pilot fails to light after 3 attempts alarm is given for assistance for that particular stack.

On shut down of gas from plant, pressure transmitter in feed line indicates low pressure closing slam shut valves and pilot solenoid valves for all stacks.

System waits for start signal.

This philosophy can be tailored to bring on half the stacks at one pressure point and the others when pressure rises above a second set point if required.
